Velomobiles: Transportation of the Future?

We aim to show that there are practical and energy-saving alternatives to traditional private transportation. More specifically, we will showcase the velomobile as an effective transportation alternative. A velomobile is a human-powered, faired recumbent tricycle, and as such is more practical (and therefore more energy-saving because potentially more people will use them) than other forms of human-powered transportation. This is because a velomobile offers much greater comfort to the rider, lets a rider achieve higher speeds, is much more stable than a standard bicycle, and is an ideal platform for enhancements. To showcase this design and promote its development and adoption, we will research human powered vehicle construction and ultimately build a velomobile, as well as create easy-to-follow directions so that the average person can cheaply and quickly construct their own.
