What’s the commute like for people on the east side of Puget Sound? What concerns do they have about traffic? Why don’t many commuters take public transportation?

This Redmond High School team surveyed 200 people from four different cities to find answers to these questions. The students used their findings to draft a new transportation policy for the region.

A new system of tolls formed the centerpiece of the students’ policy. In an effort to reduce rush hour gridlock, tolls would rise at designated times and locations. In addition, the students created a pilot program for business parks to provide shuttles for employees. The program included incentives for business parks to commit to the plan.
