Imagine Tomorrow

New for 2010

Teams

Two students per team are required to attend the competition. At least two registered team members must be on site on competition day to present the project to judges.

April 10:  Last day to change registration profiles. No changes to student participant rosters, team membership, project information, or challenge category selections will be accepted after this date. For teams that win awards, prize money will be distributed to all team members registered as project participants as of April 10, 2010.

Project displays

Main and secondary exhibition spaces. Every participating team will be represented in the main exhibition area and must fit their project displays on a table that is three feet wide by eight feet long and a display board that is four feet high by five feet long. A secondary exhibition area offers supplemental space for models, schematics, and other display items that will not fit onto the table. You may reserve space in the secondary exhibition area when you register and must indicate how much additional space you need. It will be up to your team to inform judges that you have additional materials in the secondary exhibition space and to encourage judges to visit this space. You must staff both the main and secondary exhibition areas with at least one team member.

Projection screens. Projection screens are not allowed in the main exhibition hall. If your team is making a computer presentation (i.e., video, PowerPoint, etc.), it must be visible on a computer sitting on the furnished table. If projection is needed, the projection screen must be set up in the secondary exhibition hall. As in past years, projections screens and equipment must be furnished by the teams.

Water and fire. If you are using water in your display, you must provide a containment device in case of spills. As in previous years, absolutely no flames are allowed.

Presentations

Five-minute limit. Judges will view your presentation at the competition. Be prepared to summarize your background, methods, results, and conclusion in five minutes or less. In addition, you should be prepared to answer judges' questions and discuss your project in depth.

Judging

Judges' project preview. From 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on competition day, judges will preview the projects—without contestants or advisors present.

Information available online. Detailed information about the judging process is posted on this Web site.

To learn more, visit our judging details page.

Awards

Advisor favorite. There will be a new “advisor favorite” award, with winners determined from nominations submitted by project advisors. Advisors cannot nominate any project from their own school.

Prize money distribution. Prize money will be distributed to all team members registered as project participants as of April 10, 2010. It is up to the team advisor and team members to provide information to competition organizers to facilitate payment. If such information is not provided for some students, their prize money will be forfeited—not reallocated to other team members.

Social Security numbers. All participating students should bring their Social Security numbers to the competition. Winning team members must provide Social Security numbers to competition organizers in order to receive payment. If you bring your Social Security number to the competition, it will greatly speed the payment process.
